About Healthy Concerts

Introduction

Here in Brighton (10th year) Healthy Concerts friendly open houses continue to build a new audience for genuinely unplugged acoustic music.

Healthy concerts are live unplugged (no amplification) gigs in people homes and gardens with a natural and friendly feel.

In recent years House concerts similar to our own have emerged throughout the U.S (see http://www.houseconcerts.com/). where they have been recognized by artists and audience alike as the new home of acoustic music at the very heart of an expanding network of listening rooms. A far cry from noisy & smoky clubs and bars!

Background

Paul Chi founded Healthy Concerts in 1993. A Card was placed with a news agent in Brighton courting interest in the idea of creating healthy venues for live acoustic music... My Story

Pooka launched Healthy Concerts in 1994 by giving the first ever gigs in digs performance. Since then healthy concerts have been a regular occurrence at many home venues in the Brighton and East Sussex area of the UK.

Healthy Concerts is expanding

Most people have never even heard of Healthy Concerts. That‚s about to change.Become a member today and benefit from the lifestyle. Your membership will not only help to raise the profile of local Healthy Concerts and the artists who give them, it will give us the stability we need to be able to promote house concerts all over the country, making nation-wide home tours an exciting prospect.

Ethos

House concerts are both new and ancient. Today they are a message of hope that carries a promise of fulfillment for the many human beings that long to touch others with their heart-felt song. Healthy Concerts invite you to recognize the poetry, music and creative spirit that is abundant in our communities. It is your own song that you will set free.

What the People Say....

“I’m setting up Healthy Concerts in Leamington Spa. Gigs in digs are different. People really do listen!”
Luke Concannon (singer-songwriter with Nizlopi)

“Thank you for the idea... I wasn’t keen to play in a pub or any other venue where smoking is allowed. “
Nadia Hancock (student at Dartington)

“As somebody who was new to the town and didn’t know anybody, I could particularly appreciate the way Healthy Concerts helped to get perfect strangers into conversation in a matter of minutes.”
Gerald Fiebig from Germany

“Live music has never touched me on such a deep level before.”
Jocelyn Jones

“Warmth & hospitality is what one might have expected from a house concert, but the sheer power & beauty of the music original artists are creating comes as a complete surprise. Worth far more than one is asked to pay - Priceless!”
John Wadsworth

An Eden project for the singer-songwriter

Gigs in digs present a fascinating and positive challenge to performers: vocal projection without a microphone, specific communication skills and a whole new repertoire.

We are hearing music as it wouldn't otherwise be heard, pieces seldom heard before (if ever) and inspired by the healthy concert experience. There is a qualitative difference.
