Structure — The original's two stereotypes are extended to three, adding the AI reward-hacker as a genuinely new conceptual challenge requiring its own philosophical response.

New sections include:

• Optogenetics and the precision revolution — explaining why the Olds experiment was always a blunt instrument and why the wirehead stereotype it generated was neurobiologically misleading
• The wanting–liking dissociation (Berridge et al.) — now fully experimentally established; dissolves the most viscerally compelling form of the wirehead objection
• BCIs and DBS — what two decades of clinical deep brain stimulation has actually demonstrated about the difference between removing obligate suffering and installing compulsive reward
• The psychedelic renaissance — psilocybin, ketamine/esketamine, MDMA-assisted therapy, and their mechanisms (DMN suppression particularly)
• GLP-1 agonists — a pharmacological existence proof of the wanting/liking dissociation in humans
